Regional Consequences

Criminal Methodology
Regarding inquiries concerning why smugglers utilize a approach that remains especially affected by weather elements rather than easier to manage drones, officials clarified that "Meteorological balloons are basic instruments used by smugglers - they are cheaper than drones for transporting cigarettes from Belarus."
Law Enforcement Objectives
Authorities continued that "The goal of law enforcement is to seize the largest possible quantities of contraband and to detain organisers and involved individuals so that these practices become unprofitable and create minimal risk to passenger aircraft."
Regional Security Context
The recent incidents occur during a period of growing anxiety in Europe following numerous drone incursions that have caused air traffic disruption across the region.
