The Australian skipper has secured 309 wickets in 71 Test matches with an average of 22.10.
Australia's chief selector the selector has declared that captain Pat Cummins will have a crucial role in the upcoming Ashes series.
Rumors had circulated that the 32-year-old might miss the series due to a ongoing back issue that had not yet healed.
Previous updates from the Australian camp suggested no definitive call had been made regarding his involvement, with the Test matches kicking off on November 21 in Western Australia.
He revealed that Cummins is "building up" and was "optimistic" about the prospects of participating.
"We're aware that time is getting short and there are permutations involved, not only his injury, but further aspects," Bailey remarked.
"The outlook is good. We firmly believe that he's going to play a key capacity. Ideally from the opening match. Should that not happen, we'll adjust."
Past Concerns
He was sidelined the ODI and T20 games against both Asian and Trans-Tasman rivals last month after scans revealed a lumbar bone stress.
Previous incidents include of recurring issues, with recurrences in multiple past seasons causing him to miss several home seasons in a limited period.
The bowler mentioned he would be bold in recovery efforts in his recovery plan to secure his spot for the series.
The selector indicated that it was unclear if Cummins had begun bowling as part of his comeback but admitted it was "getting tight" for him to regain fitness for the initial match.
Contingency Plans
If he's unavailable, veteran batsman Smith will take over the captaincy.
Versatile player Green was recently pulled out from the ODI lineup for their limited-overs matches against the subcontinent side as a preventive step because of an abdominal issue.
Bailey described it as a "slight concern and stated that he'll feature in the state-level matches, so will be "well-prepared to be ready to bowl."
"We put so much time has gone into developing the strategy for him to take part for the opening match as an batting and bowling option," Bailey explained.
"He was only going to play the initial matches in any case. The way he swings the bat in limited-overs, even if it just sets him back for a short period, we opted to adopt a safer strategy."
