Paris Saint-Germain Edges Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Lift French Super Cup in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now claimed the season-opening cup on 14 separate occasions.

The Parisian giants needed a stoppage-time leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to get past Marseille in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup title.

The Champions League holders appeared to be sailing towards a comfortable triumph in the match between the French league winners and the French Cup winners after the French winger found the net in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side fired two times late to take a shock advantage. First, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial leveler in the dying moments to force the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and Desire Doue all scored with composure for PSG to seal a 4-1 penalty victory.

Now 14-time champions Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the last thirteen seasons.
